This was made possible by thru the cooperation of the volunteers and Barangay Council of Sitio Marina, Alas-asin, Mariveles Bataan, volunteers from Eduk Inc. and Total Philippines.

Thanks to your help, the community’s dream for a center of learning became a reality. And with your continued support, it will remain that way for generations to come.

Maraming Salamat Po sa tulong na inyong inialay para mabuo ang Aklatang Bayan!

Thank you to Dang, Marielle, and Japs for their hard work and
creativity. Thanks also to Tomas Leonor, for contacting them. And to the
volunteers for being patient and enthusiastic throughout this entire
setting-up period.

Instant feedback from the kids, “wow, ang daming hayop!”

That brought to mind an idea… why not have face painting for kids on
June 14!

For the June 14 Opening, here’s what has been planned so far:

Program starts at 9:00AM (So volunteers and organizers should be there
by 8:00 AM). There’ll be the usual speeches, dance numbers and drinks,
but it should end before 12:00nn.

We need volunteers to:
- bring drinks and snacks
- help in the registration booth and program (ushers, etc.)
- help in the set-up before the start of the program
- documentation (video and photo)
- write articles about the opening
- help parents do the storytelling
- help paint faces
- help teach students and parents how to use the library

At the Gawad Kalinga Aklatang Bayan (Community Library), the library users are also the library owners. It’s the product of their hard work and hope for a better future.


You can be a part of their dreams too.


They need books that are educational and entertaining and volunteers to do weekend art, storytelling or music workshops. 


We invite you to help build a growing GK Towerville, Bulacan community.


Join us as we relaunch the GK Aklatang Bayan in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Thank you for your generous donation of books for the Gawad Kalinga Community Library located in Towerville, Bulacan.

We’re happy to report your books have a new home and that they were happily received by the volunteer teachers/librarians there. The GK Community Library is a product of the hard work of volunteers who hope to provide a reading and learning space for the children and parents of the community.

Towerville is located in Bgy. Minuyan, Bulacan and is home to many former squatters who were relocated there by the government from various areas such as Navotas, Nagtahan, North Triangle, and other government properties.

Please come and visit the library when you have the time. We hope to formally open it to the students of the nearby high school on June 14. Of course you are welcome to attend the opening.

For each general subdivision, a color code was assigned. This will help them arranged their collection. They were taught what an accession number is and where to put them inside the book and the importance of having an accession logbook. From today until next week, they will be accessioning all the books in Aklatang Bayan.

We discussed the importance of libraries and made vision and mission for the library. We also discussed what traits a librarian or a library volunteer must possess. We also did some role playing in order for them to know how to handle some difficult situations that may happen at the library.

Eduk, Inc. is partnering with Living for Christ Foundation in building a library. It will be called LFCF Learning Resource Center. The library will cater to toddlers and elementary students from Nayong Tsinoy community. Today, we inaugurated the library at the ground floor of the LFCF building. Workshops and trainings for the library volunteers will start on March 24.
