Last Saturday, 12 volunteers, old and new attended the training on Facilitation. The volunteers were from the libraries in Paltok and Tondo, and friends from Total and Global Exchange Program. This was conducted by the very able Perline G. Bunyi, a PETA actor and a children’s theater advocate. The volunteers were taught on how to effectively master the art of facilitation. He shared to us important tips in conducting a training module or a children’s event, among the tips are the following:
- The facilitator must relate activities to the activity’s goals. The goals should be
S - specific
M - measurable/ observable
A - attainable
R - realistic
T - timebound
- The facilitator shall be able to show evolution or levels of learning
A - activity
D - discussion
I - inputs
D - deepening
A - analysis/ application
S - synthesis
- The facilitator must be able to distinguish different types of people:
I - initiator
R - regulator/ mediator
I - infogiver
S - support giver
E - evaluator/ critic
The activity lasted for 4 hours, from 9 am to almost 1 pm. It was a lively, “active”, very informative and thought-provoking activity for the participants. The activity began with a circle and ended with a circle and a challenge that we break from the circle and spread the lessons that we’ve learned that morning.
Thank you all, from the facilitator to all the volunteers: Vina, Kaypee, Al, Troy, Marj, Jo, Virgie, Joyce, Eula, Ryan, Matz and.
Next training topic will be Catch them Early to be conducted by Ms Dedette Vargas. No schedule yet.
